Sharpes Stockfeed continues to grow.
A reputation for providing a consistent and quality product has led to significant growth for Wairarapa family business Sharpes Stock Feeds over the past five years, most notably in calf feeds.
Sharpes Stock Feeds has been in business for 110 years now and till recently most of its customers were in the Wairarapa. Now it is supplying stock feed all of the lower north island, with the Wanganui and Manawatu regions being their biggest growth regions.
Founded by John Sharpe in Petone in 1899, Sharpes Stock Feeds was bought by Alan Orsborn in 1937 and continues to be run by the Orsborn family today.
Alan’s son Alastair continues to work full time and has been joined by his son Sam, an agricultural consultant for Baker & Associates, and daughter-in-law Sara, who runs her own marketing consultancy business.
Sharpes Stock Feeds manufactures and supplies nutritionally balanced animal feeds for poultry, pigs, calves, dairy, sheep, beef, pheasant, rabbits and horses.
Poultry feeds have dominated production for the last 70 years, but calf and dairy feeds have greatly increased in recent years with the company experiencing significant growth in this area. Sharpes calf feed has been highly recommended by farmers for achieving quality healthy calves and excellent growth rates.
“The company’s reputation has been built on strong relationships and word of mouth recommendations,” Alastair says. “We’ve always made sure we provide a high quality product, consistency product and excellent service.
“We don’t use palm kernel in any of our products, and we source the majority of our raw materials locally to also support our local farmers.”
